Young carers our story

Young carers Workshops and Performances

During the early part of 2007 2engage were approached to deliver a series of confidence and aspiration raising workshops to the St Johns ambulance young carers project based in Cheshire. These workshops were a great success and as a result the group were commissioned to create a verbatim performance for the charity looking at the issue of being a young carer. Over the coming weeks 2engage led 12 young people through drama workshops to find out their accounts of the highs and lows of being a young carer. The end product was a 40 minute show entitled " young carers, Our story"

The show was performed in front of audience at the John Prescott theatre to a watching audience of friends, family and St Johns ambulance professionals. The show combined physical theatre; comedy and heart fell monologues of the lives of the young carers.

Blacon Crime Concern junior youth inclusion project

2engage ran a daylong workshop in Blacon looking at the pressing issue of crime in the area. Young people Implemented drama based on the effects of crime and discussed and debated how crime effects the local community and how people could prevent crime and stay safe in Blacon.

Cheshire Youth Forum

2engage worked with Cheshire county Council to produce an interactive drama day for the Cheshire youth Forum. The day consisted of young people from across the county , using drama exercises to debate and discuss the theme of crime in the local community. The day culminated in a performance delivered by 2engage that contained many issues voiced by young people and was witnessed by youth and social workers and members of the police force.

"2engage were well priced, of high quality, relevant and relative to our group. In the workshop they managed to move effortlessly through a range of drama techniques, physical theatre, mime, still image, characterisation. Their own performance captured the attention and thoughts of the young people by being issue based yet fun. Their professional approach was second to none and was maintained whilst being dynamic, energetic and informal. Their commitment is demonstrated not only by recognising the power and potential of drama as a tool to educate and communicate, but by being visionary in setting up their own business to provide such important work. I would not hesitate in recommending and using them in the future."
